3 safety tips for keeping
your data protected
Technology is all around us, and we simply
can't escape it. Between email, social media,
instant messaging and texting, there's a lot of
information flowing from one person to the
next. Because everyone relies on technology to
communicate, scammers are increasingly focusing
their attention on cyberspace. More than 400 u.S.

businesses are targeted each day by scammers
via email phishing, which attempts to trick you
into giving personal data (such as passwords,
bank account numbers and more). With hackers
working hard to steal your details, how can you
keep your personal and professional information
safe? Here are a few tips.

even if you think you know
who the sender of a message is,
it's still a good idea to be wary
about any links or attachments,
especially in emails. Hackers
can break into private accounts
and send corrupted messages
with malicious intent, including
infecting your computer with a
virus. In fact, one in 131 emails
contains some sort of malware,
which is the highest rate in
five years. And as for those
unsolicited emails - don't
even open them.

It's easy to use the same
password over and over again
across different platforms, but
it's not the safest way to keep
your information protected.
Instead, ensure each
important account you have
has a different password and
that those passwords are hard
to guess. Strong passwords
include a mix of numbers,
upper- and lowercase letters,
and special characters. Once
you have a good password in
place, change it regularly.

patches and updates are
ever evolving in the world of
technology. Just because you
were abreast of the security
recommendations a few
months ago doesn't mean
you are still in compliance
today. Stay informed, and
if there are any operating
system or security updates
for your computer, phone or
tablet, bring it up to date.

By utilizing these three tips, you should be able to keep your information safe and
sound as you navigate the world of technology.
