Fear not, holiday revelers. we've put together a cheat sheet of helpful hints, plus a review of the "don'ts" of holiday office gift-giving, so that you can go forth and shop-and at least get "gifts for co-workers" crossed off your to-do list. let's Review the cardinal rule in office gift-giving is to keep it appropriate. if you wouldn't show it to a child (or you would give it for Valentine's Day, as in any kind of undergarments, perfume, or spa treatments beyond a manicure), you should not be showing up with said gift to the office, no matter who the recipient or how close a friend she may be (just because she might think something's funny doesn't mean it's not offensive to others). it's best to avoid any religious overtones, too, and if there is an agreed-upon spending limit, as in for a secret santa or gift exchange, by all means, stay within it. nothing makes a person feel more awkward than to receive a gift that's way more expensive than the one she bought her neighbor. 58 w o m e n i n b u s i n e s s W i n T E R 2 013
