Sissel Honored by BAC
Sandi Sissel, ASC was recently
honored by the Bulgarian Association of
Cinematographers (BAC). Sissel was
conducting a 10-day master class for young
cinematographers in Sophia, Bulgaria,
when the BAC presented her with the
honorary certificate; as the certificate
explained, the honor was in recognition of
Sissel's "contribution to the visual art of the
young generation of Bulgarian cinematographers" and for her efforts to advance and
promote the work of female cinematographers around the world.
The BAC members participating in
the presentation were Bulgarian Association
President Ivan Tonev, Georgi Nikolov, Svetla
Ganeva, Emil Topuzov, Raly Ralchev, Krum
Rodriges, Vesko Hristov and Hristo Genkov.
"What a generous and charming
group of people," Sissel wrote in a note to
the ASC about the event. "Just to let you
know what a lovely community we have
around the world."
Members Participate
in MEWShop Event
ASC members Julio Macat, Joan
Churchill and Buddy Squires recently
participated in the Manhattan Edit Workshop's "Sight, Sound & Story: The Art of
Cinematography" event held at the New
York Institute of Technology Auditorium on

Broadway. Additional participants in the
event included cinematographers Martin
Ahlgren and Igor Martinovic, and moderators David Leitner and Hugo Perez. Attendees also had the opportunity to meet with
representatives from such industry leaders
as Zeiss, Adorama, Vimeo, VER, Arri,
Tiffen/Steadicam, Glyph, OWC and
Padcaster, at the Networking Party and Tech
Lounge.
"We are beyond excited to include
cinematographers of this level combined
with a who's who of technology companies
that will be in one room for one evening,"
says MEWShop President Jason Banke. "For
New York filmmakers and [cinematographers], this is the can't-miss event of the
year to learn, get inspired and network."
Hammond Joins
Panavision Hollywood
ASC associate member Dan
Hammond, a longtime creative solutions
technologist in the industry, was recently
named vice president and general manager
of Panavision Hollywood. Hammond will be
responsible for overseeing daily operations,
and working with the Hollywood team to
supply camera systems, optics, service and
support.
Hammond is a Panavision veteran,
having worked at the company between
1989 and 2008 in various departments,
American Cinematographer

including training, technical marketing and
sales. Most recently, he was at Production
Resource Group (PRG), where he expanded
his technical-services skills.
Hammond is active with industry
organizations. In addition to being an ASC
associate member, he serves as a member
of the Academy of Television Arts &
Sciences as well as the Association of Independent Commercial Producers.
"Dan has a broad range of strengths
in developing technology solutions, and
extensive experience providing production
studios, cinematographers and directors
with the products and services they need on
a global level," says Michael George, Panavision's chief operating officer. "We are
excited to have him back with the team at
Panavision."
"Service, innovation and growth are
always the top priority at Panavision,"
added Hammond, who reports directly to
George. "I look forward to continuing to
work with filmmakers to provide creative
solutions and further expanding Panavision
Hollywood's offerings to the production
community."
