American Cinematographer - April 2008 - (Page 94) New Products & Services features include user-generated Iridas .look files, IT-friendly connectivity, a touchscreen interface, Anton Bauer battery-powered operation, up to four hours of continuous shooting on a 160GB notebook hard drive, and a quick-release mechanism for the removal of the Mini camera head from the SI-2K body. Capturing full-resolution, DCIcompliant 2K and 1920x1080 progressive-scan, 12-bit raw images, the SI-2K Mini uses Silicon Imaging’s proprietary 48-bit digital processing algorithms to perform adaptive pixel-by-pixel black calibration and color-image enhancement. With Iridas’ color-management technology integrated into the recording software, cinematographers have an array of primary and secondary color-correction controls, and nondestructive .looks can be embedded directly into the recorded AVI or QuickTime files. To help cinematographers navigate the camera’s imaging options, the SI-2K features an integrated SiliconDVR with a touch-screen-driven interface that enables custom functionality without numerous stepdown menus. Other features of the SiliconDVR include per-channel histograms, center-zoom modes, an exposure-based zone-system display, edge-enhanced focus aids, spot meters and separate-view look-up tables. Standard 2K and 1080p resolutions can be recorded at up to 30 fps, and off-speed shooting modes offer a variety of over- and undercranking options. For example, in 720p, the camera can capture images at speeds up to 72 fps, and long-duration events can be captured using the time-lapse recording feature. The SI-2K Mini’s single-imager design enables the use of lower-cost 16mm film-style lenses and eliminates the optical aberrations that can result Mini Camera, Big Results Silicon Imaging, Inc. and P+S Technik announced last year a strategic partnership to deliver a broad range of solutions for the digital-cinema industry. The cornerstone of their collaboration is the SI-2K Digital Cinema Camera, which includes the SI-2K Mini Camera Head. Combining the 2048x1152-reso- lution Mini head with Iridas colormanagement technology and CineForm RAW recording, the SI-2K delivers a direct-to-disk recording platform that boasts low-noise and high-dynamicrange images. Thanks to a 12-bit A/D converter integrated into the 16:9format, 2⁄3" CMOS sensor, the camera offers over 10 stops of latitude. Other 94 April 2008
