Hawk Sets Up Shop in L.A.
ASC associate members Peter Märtin and Wolfgang Bäumler, known in the cinematography world as "the Hawk guys," have
announced the creation of a new operation in Los Angeles where
Hawk Anamorphic lenses and all other Hawk and Vantage products
can be rented and serviced. A dedicated building in Los Angeles,
staffed with experienced and knowledgeable personnel, will also
house a studio and sophisticated testing and service facilities.
Hawk's significant investment represents a long-term
commitment to the North American market. "After 25 years of
success and growth around the world, we are thrilled to establish a
bricks-and-mortar presence in Los Angeles," says Märtin. "Our goal
is to facilitate the availability of our lenses throughout North America, whether renting directly to productions or by supporting our
rental-house partners. As you would expect, Hawk Anamorphic Los
Angeles will be carefully conceived and perfectly organized, with the
needs of our customers always at the heart of our planning."
Bäumler emphasizes that Hawk Anamorphic Los Angeles will
strengthen longstanding relationships with rental houses rather
than compete with them. "We envision the facility as a way of
supporting our respected colleagues in the rental sector with local
service and inventory, which will be greatly expanded," he says.

Cooke Expands S7 Lineup
Cooke Optics has unveiled four new focal
lengths for its S7/i line of primes: 16mm, 21mm,
27mm and 65mm. Each lens has been designed
to offer a "full-frame plus" image circle capable
of covering the latest class of large-sensor
cameras, including Arri's Alexa LF, Red's Weapon
8K and Sony's Venice.
The three new focal lengths join the eight
S7/i's the company had previously released:
18mm, 25mm, 32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 75mm,
100mm and 135mm. All of the Cooke S7/i

primes are T2.0 and house a cam-type focus mechanism for smooth
focal adjustments. Offering specialized corrections for astigmatism
and lateral and longitudinal aberrations over the entire image area,
the S7/i line has been color-matched with Cooke's Anamorphic/i,
S4/i, MiniS4/i, 5/i and Panchro/i Classic lenses.
Cooke has also expanded its range of Panchro/i Classic primes
for Super 35-sized imagers, adding the 21mm, 27mm, 65mm
Macro and 135mm focal lengths. The 135mm is the first to be available, with the other three promised for delivery by the end of the
year. Panchro/i Classic primes offer a vintage look with a modern
housing, complete with Cooke's /i metadata technology, which
offers a digital readout of information - such as T-stop, focus,
distortion mapping and depth of field - about the lens being used
during capture.

Fujinon Adds X-Mount Optics
Fujinon, the Optical Devices
Division of Fujifilm, has added
two new zooms to its cinema
family of X-mount products.
The Fujinon MKX50-135mm
(T2.9) and the Fujinon MKX1855mm (T2.9) are designed as
lightweight compact zooms that can
cover most frequently needed focal lengths for a
production with only a two-lens kit.
Both lenses have been designed to suppress focal shift and
lens breathing throughout their respective zoom range. Each
features full three-ring manual controls for focus, zoom and aperture, and the focus ring offers a rotation of 200 degrees. With the
same ring placement on each lens and a 0.8-mod industry-standard
gear module, both lenses can be easily swapped out without disrupting the placement of follow-focus units or other accessories. The 50135mm has a front diameter of 85mm, and the 18-55mm has a
front diameter of 82mm.
The wide-angle MKX18-55mm zoom weighs 2.38 pounds
and measures 87mm x 206.6mm (3.43"x8.13"). It holds 22 glass
elements in 17 groups, including six "super" extra-low dispersion
elements and two extra-low dispersion elements. When using the
wide-macro function for close-ups, the close focus is 2' 9"; the standard zoom, however, offers a close focus of 1' 2.9", and covers an
angle of view between 29-76.5 degrees.
At the same weight, the MKX50-135mm spans an angle of
view of 12-31.7 degrees. Its close focus is 2' 9", or 3' 11" when used
in its wide-macro function.
