Hive Illuminates
Bee Plasma Flood
Hive Lighting has introduced the
Bee Plasma Flood light and Holographic Diffusing Polycarbonate
lenses.
The Bee Plasma Flood is Hive
Lighting's first "open-face" lighting
solution. Using only 276 watts, the
5,600K fixture produces virtually no
heat in the beam while still delivering high-quality output and flickerfree performance (up to 225 million
fps). The versatile unit weighs only
10 pounds, making it easily transportable and simple to set up and break down.
Retailing for less than $2,000, the Bee boasts a 100-degree
field and a unique reflector system that creates a bell curve of output
distribution. The majority of the light is focused in the center 50
degrees before evenly tapering to a full 100-degree flood. The result
is a light that can throw great distances, cast a sharp single shadow
and also function as a panel.
Designed for Hive's Plasma Par and Maxi systems, the HDP
lenses offer high-quality diffusion in a lightweight, durable body. The
lenses are crafted from a rigid polycarbonate that utilizes patented
surface microstructures to homogenize and shape light effectively.
The resulting diffusion is identical to traditional glass lenses, but from
a lens that will not break or shatter, is a fraction of the weight, and
transmits 20-40-percent more light than their glass counterparts. A
four-lens set of HDP lenses (comprising 10-degree spot, 15x30degree medium, 10x40-degree wide and 50-degree super wide) will
retail for $231.

AJA Unveils Cion Camera
AJA Video Systems has unveiled the Cion digital cinema
camera, which features an ergonomic design and is capable of
shooting at 4K/Ultra HD and 2K/HD resolutions. Cion builds on AJA's
history of lensto-post Apple
ProRes workflows with the
Ki Pro product

codecs, including 12-bit 4:4:4. Cion offers the ability to output 4K
raw data at up to 120 fps via four 3G-SDI outputs; the camera can
also record directly to AJA Pak SSD media at up to 60 fps.
The AJA Cion features a built-in shoulder mount, standard
connectors in logical positions, and a PL lens mount for compatibility with industry-standard lenses. When recording in HD or 2K, the
image is oversampled from the full 4K APS-C sized CMOS sensor,
which incorporates an electronic global shutter and boasts 12 stops
of dynamic range. A built-in filter combines an optical low-pass filter
(to eliminate unwanted aliasing and moiré) with an infrared cut filter
(to produce appropriate colors). The Cion also features a back-focus
adjustment, as well as several 3G-SDI and HDMI outputs, which are
all simultaneously active and supply signal to a variety of 4K/Ultra HD
and 2K/HD monitors. A power output connector is placed at the
front of the unit to make electronic viewfinders easy to use.
The Cion features an uncomplicated user interface that can
be easily managed from the operator side. The camera's menu parameters are also remotely configurable via a Web interface and can
be accessed through any Web browser via a LAN connection.
The camera's sleek chassis is formed of lightweight, extremely
strong magnesium. Integrated steel rosettes allow for the mounting
of industry-standard accessories such as handgrips and handle
extensions directly to the camera body. The open design also incorporates integrated cheese plates with standard tapped holes; these
cheese plates are fitted to both the top and bottom of the chassis to
provide easy mounting of accessories.

Red Enables 4K Broadcast
Red Digital Cinema has introduced the 4K Broadcast Module,
which allows for live 4K streaming, enabling users to capture and
view action in real time. Compatible with both Epic Dragon and
Scarlet Dragon cameras, the 4K
Broadcast Module uses four 3G-SDI
output connections to broadcast 4K
video at up to 60 fps. Five ¼-20
mounting holes are built into the top
of the module, allowing for various
mechanical peripherals to be attached.
The 4K Broadcast Module requires
either the Module Adaptor or the +1
Adaptor Module be connected to the
Brain; only power/battery modules or
the Redmote can be attached to the
rear of the module.
