I set look-up tables with Josh, and Josh
would bake them into the dailies.
Did you do anything special to

treat the Alexa footage?
Coraci: One really unique thing
about Julio is that he's a genius with filtration. In the digital age, many filmmakers like
to do everything in post. I really like someone who understands that technology but
keeps the old-school element alive. Julio's
use of unusual filters helped the cast look
really beautiful. It was fun to see and really
fun to learn about.
What kind of filters are we talking about?
Macat: I was using old-fashioned
net material that I got 25 years ago from
Dick Meinardus, a veteran camera assistant.
Legend had it that he used this material for
Loretta Young. I've been using it since Home
Alone. I use it on the front of the lens, very
close to the front element, and combine it
with a [Schneider] Classic Soft FX filter for a
really nice, subtle diffusion. It was very
complimentary to both Drew and Adam. I
think the biggest mistake people make in
shooting comedies is that they don't think
enough about how the actors look best. At
times they light a location and put the actors
in it without considering how the actors
might look in that lighting. I'm married to an
actress and have always been sensitive to
this. I do a lot of tests in prep to determine
how to make the actors look their best. I
noticed in my tests for this film that bounce
light through a frame of thick diffusion, a
material similar to 1,000H, was a very nice
