Fourth-generation
Blackmagic
Design color science enables the shooting
of HDR images in film, video and extendedvideo modes. Images can be recorded onto
standard SD cards, faster UHS-II cards or
CFast 2.0 cards in either ProRes or raw
formats; the camera can record 4K images
at up to 60 fps, and windowed HD at up to
120 fps. It also allows users to record directly
onto the same external USB-C media drives
they use for editing and color correction,
allowing users to turn projects around
quickly.
The Pocket Cinema Camera 4K uses
the same MFT lens mount as the original
Pocket Cinema Camera, so users can
continue using the lenses they already own.
The MFT mount allows for different lens
adapters, so the camera can be paired with
PL, C, EF and other types of lenses.
The rear of the camera features a
bright 5" touchscreen that makes it easy to
frame shots and find focus. It also uses the
same Blackmagic OS as the Ursa Mini
camera; customers can use simple tap and
swipe gestures to adjust settings, add metadata and view recording status. Onscreen
overlays make it easy to see recording parameters, status, histogram, focus and peaking indicators, and playback controls. In
addition, 3D LUTs can be applied for both
monitoring and recording.
The Pocket Cinema Camera 4K also
includes a full-size HDMI connector, which
can output HDR video as well as a clean 10bit video feed with optional onscreen overlays. A high-speed USB-C Expansion Port
allows for adding external accessories such
as flash drives and an SSD. The camera uses
standard LP-E6 batteries and can be

charged via USB-C or the locking DC power
connector, which protects the camera from
being accidentally unplugged during a
shoot.
Blackmagic Design has also
announced DaVinci Resolve 15, which fully
integrates visual effects and motion graphics with professional offline and online editing, color correction, audio postproduction
and multi-user collaboration. Resolve 15
adds an entirely new Fusion page with more

DOPChoice has introduced the
Lantern, the newest addition to its Snapbag
line of quick-setup lighting softeners. The
versatile Lantern can act as a traditional
lantern, China ball, or conventional soft
box, and it can be used with a wide choice
of LED lighting fixtures. Allowing users to
change the depth of the sphere at will, it
can be fully expanded like a traditional
lantern or contracted for use in tighter
spots.
The SnapBag Lantern weighs just 4.4
pounds and folds into a low-profile soft
bag. When hung overhead or on a boom

Schneider Re-Creates
Vintage Nets
Schneider-Kreuznach has unveiled the True-Net filter family. Schneider's engineering
team has re-created the time-honored silk-stocking diffusion look that resourceful cinematographers have been creating for decades. Now, the respected trick is as easy as slipping
on a front-of-the-lens filter.
After extensive research, Schneider developed a technique to sandwich hosiery
between their hallmark crystal-clear water-white optical glass; the hosiery is made on the
same knitting machines that were used to make vintage silks going back to the 1950s. The
True-Net filters are laminated and protected from edge chipping with Schneider's unique
Edge Seal, which also reduces edge reflection and edge flare.
The series includes seven varieties. True-Net Blacks come in 3 densities, from subtle to
heavy, to provide a lush old-Hollywood feel that can look romantic, elegant or seductive.
True-Net Beige, available in 2 densities, can give a warm and dreamy 1960s or '70s effect.
The two True-Net Gray filters portray a more muted, natural feel that retains pleasing
contrast.
"I held up the first net to my eye and it evoked so much beauty and romance, I felt
I was in a European film," says George Mooradian, ASC, who tested the filters for an
upcoming project. "It's a beautiful, vintage feel that wipes out the pristine, clean, sterile look
of the modern digital cameras and lenses."
