B 38 August 2008 ased on the popular stage musical of the same name, the film Mamma Mia! uses hit songs by the Swedish supergroup Abba to tell the story of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), a young woman who lives with her mother, Donna (Meryl Streep), on a Greek island. Sophie is about to be mar- ried, and after she discovers an old diary of her mother’s, she secretly invites three of Donna’s former lovers to her wedding in the hope that one of them is the father she has never known. All three men arrive on the eve of the ceremony, much to Donna’s shock and consternation, and before long, each of them independently decides he must be Sophie’s biological father. Lighthearted chaos ensues, punctuated by a hit parade of catchy and familiar pop tunes.
