Johnston Named Associate
New associate member Eric J. Johnston currently serves as the strategic account

Group. With a bachelor's degree from the
University of Vermont and more than 15
years of professional-service experience in
the motion-picture industry, Johnston is also
an active music-video cinematographer, and
has shot videos with numerous artists.
Deschanel, Bailey and Spinotti
Serve on Academy Board
The Academy of Motion Pictures
Arts and Sciences has announced its 20142015 Board of Governors. After a hiatus,
Caleb Deschanel, ASC returns as a governor to the cinematography branch, where
he joins John Bailey, ASC and Dante Spinotti, ASC, AIC.
Bailey Judges Kodak
Scholarships
John Bailey, ASC recently led a
panel of judges chosen to select the recipients of the 2014 Kodak Student Scholarship
Awards and the Kodak Student Cinematography Scholarship Awards. The first-place
Student Cinematography Scholarship
Award was presented to Balaji Manohar
from New York University's Tisch School of
the Arts Asia in Singapore, for his work on
the film Little Master, and an honorable
mention was presented to Balázs István
Balázs from the University of Theatre and
Film Arts in Hungary, for his work on Ház.

The awards were given out during the
banquet and awards ceremony at the
University Film and Video Association's
Conference, which was held at Montana
State University.
Society Welcomes Moxness
New active member David
Moxness, ASC, CSC was born in Jasper,
Alberta, Canada, and was raised in a small
town in British Columbia, where he began
shooting with his father's 8mm camera. In
1978, he won first place in the British Columbia Student Film Festival for a stop-motion
film he made with friends. Moxness went on
to study film and theater at Brock University
in Ontario while simultaneously working as a
production assistant for Alliance Atlantis
Communications. Rene Ohashi, ASC, CSC
mentored Moxness for 11 years on numerous productions, including the feature
Where the Spirit Lives.
Moxness has earned numerous
awards for his television cinematography
work, including an ASC Award for Smallville
in 2007; Moxness has also received ASC
Award nominations for his work on the
series The Kennedys and Fringe. Moxness
continues to shoot series, features and telefilms. His recent credits include the series
Revolution, The Tomorrow People and
Graceland.

ASC, AC, American
Cinematheque Honor Willis
The ASC and AC recently partnered
with the American Cinematheque to honor
the late Gordon Willis, ASC with a 10-film
screening series at the Aero Theatre in Santa
Monica. Willis' daughter, Susan, introduced
the kick-off double feature of Manhattan
and Annie Hall. ASC members John Bailey
and Richard P. Crudo also participated with
introductions later in the series, which
included screenings of All The President's
Men, Klute, Broadway Danny Rose, Zelig,
The Purple Rose of Cairo, Pennies From
Heaven, The Godfather and The Godfather
Part II.
Additionally, the ASC held a memorial celebration of Willis' life and career at the
Clubhouse in Hollywood. Crudo, Woody
Omens, ASC and Caleb Deschanel, ASC
joined Susan Willis-Powers in sharing memories of the late cinematographer, and AC
editor-in-chief and publisher, Stephen
Pizzello, also spoke, offering quotes from
Willis himself. The celebration concluded
with a screening of The Godfather Part II.
