Society Welcomes Goldman
New active member Adriano
Goldman, ASC, ABC was born in São
Paulo, Brazil. Goldman began his career
as a camera operator before directing
and photographing his first short, Is
Reinaldo Still Swimming?, which was
feted at both the São Paolo Fotoptica
Video Festival and the Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano
in Havana, Cuba. He then continued to
work on commercials, music videos and
television series, including episodes of
City of Men (Cidade dos Homens), Sons
of Carnival (Filhos do Carnaval) and
Alice.
Goldman first collaborated with
director Cary Joji Fukunaga on the
feature Sin Nombre (AC April '09), for
which he received a cinematography
award at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival
as well as an Independent Spirit Award
nomination. Goldman and Fukunaga
reteamed for the feature Jane Eyre (AC
April '11). The cinematographer's credits
also include the features City of Men,
Romance, Conviction, The Company You
Keep, August: Osage County and Burnt.
Fetner, LaManna, Zell
Named Associates
New associate member Chris
Fetner currently serves as a primary technical liaison at Netflix for content owners,
creators and service vendors. He oversees

Netflix's preferred-vendor program for
digital supply-chain service providers and
is responsible for sharing tools, processes
and knowledge to make delivering highquality content simple and efficient.
Fetner previously worked as vice president
of postproduction and technical services
for BBC Worldwide in New York. Fetner
holds a master's degree in radio, television
and film studies from American University, and a postgraduate diploma from
Oxford University in social studies.
Ross LaManna is a screenwriter
and novelist who has served as department chair of the undergraduate film
department at ArtCenter College of
Design in Pasadena, Calif., since 2006,
and as chair of the graduate film department since 2014. LaManna holds a bachelor's degree in screenwriting from the
University of Southern California and a
master's degree in dramatic writing from
Arizona State University. LaManna has
sold original screenplays and pitches, and
performed writing or rewriting services
for Columbia Pictures, United Artists,
Carolco Pictures, Fox, Disney, Paramount,
Universal, HBO and many independent
companies. LaManna's writing credits
include the telefilms Chrome Soldiers and
Arctic Blue, the miniseries Titanic, and the
features Rush Hour and the upcoming
Maximum Impact. He has also worked on
the features Cliffhanger, Universal Soldier
and Star Trek: First Contact.
American Cinematographer

Joachim Zell currently serves as
technical director and vice president of
imaging science for Deluxe company
EFilm in Hollywood. Zell started his engineering and imaging-science career
when he was 16, working as a radio and
television repair apprentice in a shop near
Frankfurt, Germany. He attended an electronics engineering college before joining
the German Navy, and he later received a
master's degree from the University for
Film and Television Engineering in Wiesbaden, Germany. Zell previously worked
as product manager of digital film
systems for Pandora International in
England; marketing manager for Thomson Grass Valley in Burbank, Calif.; and
vice president of advanced technology
for Technicolor, also in Burbank. In his
spare time, Zell teaches for Red Digital
Cinema's Reducation program as well as
the ASC Master Class.
BSC Salutes Lachman, Carol
Ed Lachman, ASC recently
received the BSC Best Cinematography
Award for his work on Carol (AC Dec.
'15). The award was presented during
the BSC Summer Lunch held in the
historic ballroom of Pinewood Studios. In
addition to this award, Lachman previously received the Camerimage Golden
Frog as well as Academy and ASC Award
nominations for his work on the film.
