Record Crowd Prompts Record ACEC/PAC Fundraising Annual Convention Draws B Chris Matthews emphasizes a point during the Opening General Session. etween the “State Dinner” orchestrated by former White House Chef Walter Scheib, and Hardesty & Hanover’s Charles Gozdziewski winning $10,000 in the ACEC/PAC Sweepstakes, the Annual Convention in Washington, D.C., was filled with thrills for the more than 1,200 attendees—an all-time record. h Chris Matthews, host of MSNBC's “Hardball,” provided insights on the upcoming presidential election. Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist George Will offered his perspectives on disturbing trends in American society. h More than $120,000 was raised for ACEC/PAC at the Convention, surpassing the previous $100,000 record set at the 2006 Fall Conference. h ACEC also unveiled a new membership video featuring testimonials from members and notable federal government officials. The video has been distributed to all Member Organizations (MOs). h “The sessions and the speakers were great,” said Dale Watson of Fox Engineering Associates, Inc., in Ames, Iowa. “My favorite part was the educational programs. I also enjoyed the new membership video. It will be a great recruitment tool for the MOs.” h “This was my first national Convention and I thought it was outstanding,” said John Nelson of WrightPierce in Topsham, Maine. “I enjoyed the CEO roundtables the best. Participants in those sessions were forthcoming and honest about the real areas of concerns shared by all firms.” h “I thought the choice of speakers was excellent,” said Dale Miller of Kirkham Michael in Phoenix. “In addition, the “How to think like a Congressman” program was particularly impressive.
