2014 CONGRESS ON HEALTHCARE LEADERSHIP
ACHE Social Responsibility
In 2009, ACHE became one of the Pioneer Signatories of the Global Principles for
Socially Responsible Associations and Nonprofits sponsored by the American Society
of Association Executives. The six voluntary principles cover: responsible advocacy;
environmental and economic sustainability; public protection-ethics, self-regulation
and human rights; diversity; philanthropic/community service; and leadership.
With this commitment, ACHE will advance these principles throughout every level of
the organization and broadly within its sphere of influence. At the 2014 Congress, where leadership is the essence of the gathering, the
principles of environmental sustainability and community service are especially evident.
2014 Community Connections
Diversity Scholarships: On the Sunday preceding Congress,
Modern Healthcare magazine in conjunction with ACHE will
honor the 2014 inductees to Modern Healthcare's Health Care
Hall of Fame. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales supports
the scholarship fund of the Institute for Diversity in Health
Management.
Fisher House™ Donations: On the Wednesday during
Congress, participants in the annual three-mile Fun Run/Walk
enjoy exercise and scenic views along Chicago's lakeshore, all while
donating to a cause. The $10 fee per participant is donated to the
Fisher House™, a "home away from home" for families of patients
receiving care at military and VA medical centers. See page 50 for
more information.
Volunteer Activity: On the Wednesday during Congress,
ACHE members can take a break from educational sessions and
join their colleagues for hands-on volunteer service. See page 50
for more information.
Apply for a Congress Tuition Waiver
ACHE makes available a limited number of tuition waivers to ACHE Members and Fellows whose organizations
lack the resources to fund their tuition for education programs. Waivers are based on financial need. Congress
tuition waivers are available only for the basic Congress
registration and the Saturday and Sunday Pre-Congress
Seminars. Applications must be submitted by January 18.
Hotel accommodations fill early, so consider booking your
hotel room before receiving a reply to your tuition waiver
request. For information on the ACHE Tuition Waiver
Assistance Program, visit ache.org/TuitionWaiver or contact ACHE's Customer Service Center at (312) 424-9400.
ACHE Social Responsibility
Striving for Minimal Waste
ACHE recognizes the environmental benefits and obligations of
being socially responsible:
Printing and Production Techniques: Wherever possible,
we use printers that have Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. This certification acknowledges responsible and sustainable forest growth and harvesting.
Meeting Materials: Attendees have the opportunity to proof
their name badges online, saving paper and time. Attendees are
encouraged to recycle their leftover paper and other recyclable
materials using the ACHE-built recycling bins placed throughout
the hotel. The majority of the meeting signs and structures are
reusable and will be adapted for use at future meetings. Leftover
portfolio bags are reused, as are all returned badge holders and
lanyards. We hope that you will join us in our efforts to be responsible stewards of limited natural resources.
Other Initiatives: The Hyatt Regency Chicago takes a number
of actions to lower its environment footprint, including: use of
high-efficiency compact fluorescent lighting in guest rooms;
motion senor lighting; water conservation initiatives such as lowflow showerheads and toilets and use of faucet aerators; a robust
recycling program; use of environmentally sensitive cleaning products; use of high-efficiency hand dryers; and a paperless check-in/
out process. The Hyatt Regency Chicago also donates approximately 200 pounds per month of unused toiletries to an organization for distribution to those in need in the Chicago area.
