two interesting subthemes emerged. The first is to improve communication and
interaction with the tumor registrar, who manages the data collection. The second
is to improve communication and develop good relationships with community
physicians.
A key point made by the authors is the importance of promoting the value of
measurement and reporting, especially given the costs involved in these efforts. Key
stakeholders want to know, “What’s in it for me?” Your responsibility as leaders is
to provide them with meaningful correlations between accurate and appropriate
reporting and the future viability of the organization in terms of care quality and
reimbursement.
Many healthcare initiatives now include enhancing information technology
(IT) as a key component for successful implementation. Executives generally agree
that the field must improve the availability and integration of IT in any project
where multiple computer systems are involved. The authors validate the notion that
compatibility among the various technologies can move the organization toward
improved data measurement and data reporting.
Another message is the need to anticipate the impact of the tactics selected to
achieve strategic goals. For example, important consequences can accompany decisions regarding whether information measurement and reporting should be centralized or decentralized. Some areas of consideration include economies of scale,
teamwork, and process change.
We all know that healthcare faces major challenges. The amount of reimbursement at risk will increase in the years to come. Exceptional data measurement and
reporting will assist in producing successful results.
