decision-making authority in the area of
medical benefits. Such a sampling frame
is difficult to identify from existing
secondary sources. After numerous
inquiries of HR professional databases,
we determined that ResearchNow provided the most accurate sampling frame.
Another concern is that respondents
may not be knowledgeable enough
about MT to provide valid opinions. The
fact that our overall findings fit with
extant diffusion research somewhat
assuages these concerns. In showing the
appeal of overseas centers of excellence
to unsuspected groups of plan sponsors
(e.g., fully insured), they corroborate
prior empirical work based on individual patients. The next step in this
research is to develop a deeper understanding of the complex mechanisms
underlying the adoption of MT options
and explain how employers' and MT's
characteristics influence one another to
predict adoption.
