On the Spot Measuring Progress ACUHO-I asked members who survey regularly what assessment points they use to benchmark their institutions. Jeff Janz University of WisconsinWhitewater Sean Pierce Florida Atlantic University Tom Fojtik University of WisconsinOshkosh Allan Blattner The University of North Carolina at Charlotte WE benchmark using several instruments including the EBI Resident and RA Assessments and the National Survey of Student Engagement. We benchmark student satisfaction with factors related to the living environment, including interaction with others, facilities, and safety/security. We also benchmark RA satisfaction with work/life balance and compensation. Finally, we benchmark student satisfaction with their academic experience including the level of academic challenge, studentfaculty interaction, and a supportive campus environment. This provides us the opportunity to examine our program’s effectiveness while working within the conﬁnes of a peer group with whom we are most familiar. When looking for data on very speciﬁc issues, I tend to pay more attention to our institutional longitudinal data. I feel that by looking at our own data (especially over the past ﬁve years), we get the best measure of our progress.
