Talking Stick - July/August 2008 - (Page 12) Your ACUHO-I Talking Stick Takes Best Feature Award The Society of National Association Publications (SNAP) has awarded the Talking Stick the 2008 Excel Award for best feature article in the circulation category of 10,000 to 20,000. The article, “Making the Old New Again,” was written by Julie Phillips and appeared in the January-February 2007 issue. This is the second time that Phillips has won this award, and this year’s win is a bit sweeter. SNAP had a record number of entries, and she still beat the extra competition. Earl Thompson Award Tony Cawthon, Clemson University 21st Century Project Accepting Applications for Host Sites The future of collegiate housing is getting closer as the 21st Century Project enters its next stage. After hosting the 21st Century Project Summit, as well as two design showcase competitions, the project is now accepting applications from colleges and universities interested in being home to a prototype 21st Century Project residence hall. Construction of the hall will be informed by the summit process as well as by the defining characteristics that came out of that process: sustainability, flexibility, community, and technology. The deadline for applications is October, 1, 2008. The Outstanding Corporate Friend Award Jim Curtin, Solomon, Cordwell, Buenz and Associates, Inc. Campuses interested in hosting a 21st Century Project hall will be asked to complete a short application – available for download from the project Web site (www.21stCenturyProject. Potential hosts will also make a commitment to follow 21st Century Project procedures (such as hosting a minisummit on their campus as well as meeting with consultants) to ensure that results reflect the needs of the entire campus population, In the near future, ACUHO-I will offer two brand new ways including housing officers, administration, to network with members: the ACUHO-I Social Network and the finance, facilities, faculty, and students. ACUHO-I News Blog. The social network will be an online forum for New Online Resources for Members members to discuss housing challenges and successes and get “real life” answers quickly. The news blog will pour up-todate housing news into an online environment where members can go and quickly scan the news that will impact their day-to-day tasks.
