Vision Plan – Engage – Make History The Association of College and University Housing OfficersInternational has reached a pivotal point in our history. Over the past few years, housing professionals have experienced tremendous advances in technology, developed sustainable practices and crisis management plans, faced increasing building renovation and construction costs, and experienced difficulties in the recruitment and retention of staff. In many cases we have had to react to incidents and legislation which have driven our policies, purchases, and projects. I believe everyone would agree that we are most effective and productive on our campuses and in our businesses when we take the time to intentionally plan for our services and programs. In order for ACUHO-I to continue to provide the education and communication needed to assist you with your decisions, we must also intentionally plan. This coming year will be incredibly busy for ACUHO-I as we position our association for the future by involving numerous key stakeholders in several important summits, retreats, and workshops. The newly structured ACUHO-I Executive Board along with other stakeholders will participate in a September strategic planning retreat. We are bringing in an association expert to lead and advance our strategic plan. The ACUHO-I Foundation will also be participating in a strategic planning retreat in order to examine their structure, programs, and services to ensure that their work is parallel with the association. Additionally, we have provided professional development and education such as institutes, Webinars, and conferences. It is important that our education is provided in a consistent manner and that it is grounded in theory and research. We will be engaging key educational participants in a Knowledge Summit later this year to better understand and coordinate all of our educational opportunities. A highlight of this coming year will be the first Global Housing Summit hosted by ACUHO-I, in Hong Kong in January 2009. The global housing enterprise is rapidly growing, and our association’s impact on the global education of housing professionals continues to strengthen. There are many common campus housing themes among campuses worldwide, and we have much to learn from one another. The summit will provide an opportunity for 100 senior housing and student affairs staff to meet in order to advance these common topics. Associated with the summit will be an additional opportunity to participate in a study tour of Chinese institutions and housing operations. Participation and involvement by the key stakeholders in these planning initiatives are incredibly important in order for us to develop the strategic future for our association.
