Talking Stick - March/April 2009 - (Page 13) Your aCuHo-i New Business Operations Conference Joins ACUHO-I Conference Series Each year the ACUHO-I Conference Series events provide sessions and information for different niches within the campus housing profession. This year, along with the conferences for apartments, housing facilities, and living-learning programs, ACUHO-I introduces the ACUHO-I Business Operations Conference. All events will be held during the month of October in Columbus, Ohio. The full schedule is below. The Business Operations conference, chaired this year by Bonnie Solt-Prunty from Ithaca College in New York, will meet the needs of members who work in the assignments, information technology, conference services, marketing, and business segments of college and university housing offices. These five significant functional areas were selected because they work collectively within a campus housing office. In some cases, one person may be in charge of all areas while, for other campuses, there are five or more persons responsible for these areas. Regardless of the staffing, one area is not able to function without another. Learn more about this event and the rest of the series at www.acuho-i.org. Registration will open in June. ACUHO-I ASSISTS DISPLACeD WORkeRS The ACUHO-I Executive Board announced last month that complimentary one-year Associate Affiliate memberships will be available for individuals who are displaced from their full-time positions within a college or university housing office due to budget cuts. This membership will allow continued access to the digital version of the Talking Stick magazine and registration discounts, as well as access to the ACUHO-I online professional network and other online resources such as the library catalog. The strength of ACUHO-I has always come from the network of professionals and their willingness to support others by sharing news, advice, and knowledge. The decision was made that reliance on that network is more important than ever, and steps should be taken to retain our highly qualified and dedicated professionals. To take advantage of this opportunity, contact Laura Pietrykowski, the ACUHO-I membership coordinator, at laura@acuho-i.org or call (614) 292-0099. Plus attendees will have the chance to listen to and pose questions for a panel of experts who will speak on current conditions facing higher education as well as their future implications.
