Together have resources for starting
conversations that involve religious,
spiritual, or worldview identity.

Nielsen: It may be appropriate to
develop a small handbook with information on the religious life groups
on campus for staff. Additionally, the
handbook would include information from the conduct code specific to
concerns related to religious, secular,
and spiritual identities. Definitions of
said identities would be appropriate as
well. Finally, the resources should include information about staff who are
responsible for oversight of this area
of the university diversity work, as well
as encouragement to refer lingering
concerns to said staff or office.

(ifyc.org); NASPA's knowledge community on spirituality and religion
(naspa.org/constituent-groups/kcs/spirituality-and-religion-in-higher-education);
ACPA's commission on spirituality,
faith, religion, and meaning (myacpa.
org/commsfrm); and Hillel (hillel.org).
I would also recommend the most
recent editions of Student Development in College: Theory, Research, and
Practice; Student Engagement in Higher
Education: Theoretical Perspectives
and Practical Approaches for Diverse
Populations; New Directions for Student
Services, Special Issue: Intersections of
Religious Privilege: Difficult Dialogues
and Student Affairs Practice (Vol.
2009, No. 125), which may be available online through your library; and
Educating About Religious Diversity and
Interfaith Engagement: A Handbook for
Student Affairs, which will be available

from Stylus Publishing in late 2018.
TS: What other offices or departments
on campus can housing and res life
connect with to support this type of
training?

Babarskis: You can certainly look to
internal partners first, but chances are
there are myriad groups orbiting your
campus community that could help.
Large institutions may have a council
that includes campus ministries or student organizations. How intentional
have you been in building relationships with these individuals or groups?
You may be in a better position to pull
them in if you've learned who they are
and what their priorities are.
