WILLIAM “BO” BRUCE II HOW TO 1 AT A GLANCE 2 Information provided by Ivoclar Vivadent Inc. 1. Pre-operative view of the female patient’s posterior amalgam restorations. 2. A rubber dam, rubber dam clamp and rubber floss were used to achieve proper, complete isolation. 3. The old amalgam restoration and decayed tissue were removed. 4. After the decayed tissue was excavated, beveled margins were created. 5. The tooth was etched using the total-etch technique. An isolation When placing posterior composites, many dental professionals nd achieving tight, consistent contacts can be one of the most frustrating and challenging steps of the restorative process. Fortunately, clinicians have been introduced to Tetric EvoCeram, a nano-optimized universal hybrid composite that o ers many features. Tetric EvoCeram is composed of three di erent nanoparticles— llers, pigments and a modi er—that combine to create a singular material with improved handling properties, a non-sticky consistency and enhanced stability. This composite demonstrates other characteristics that enable clinicians to work more e ectively and e ciently. Tetric EvoCeram exhibits low shrinkage, low wear rates and is easy to polish. Additionally, this nano-optimized composite’s formulation makes it possible for the material to completely blend in with the tooth’s natural structure or with the surrounding natural dentition. What’s more, restorations created with Tetric EvoCeram are long-lasting and demonstrate a natural uorescence and a high radiopacity. The case A 45-year-old female presented with extraordinarily sensitive and severe bite pain she experienced when eating certain foods. Normally, she expressed no chief complaints of sensitivity to hot or cold. Her main concern was removing the existing posterior amalgam restoration and replacing it with something esthetic and tooth-colored (Fig. 1). Clinical protocol STEP To achieve good isolation, use a rubber dam, rubber dam clamp and rubber oss (Fig. 2). In this case, the patient’s existing decay is removed (Fig. 3). STEP After all of the decayed tissue is removed, bevel the preparation margins with a bur (Fig. 4). 3 01 02 4 5 6 NANO-OPTIMIZED UNIVERSAL HYBRID COMPOSITE FEATURES Exhibits low shrinkage and wear rates WEB EXCLUSIVE For more images from this case, check out dentalproductsreport.com.
