Then etch the preparation according to the total-etch technique (Fig. 5). STEP Apply a single-component bonding agent (ExciTE) onto the tooth for 15 seconds. Use a warm air drier to evaporate any excess. Light cure the bonding agent for 10 seconds (Fig. 6). STEP Apply Tet r ic EvoCer a m composite to one wall of the preparation at a time, starting with the buccal wall, without placing any composite in the contact area. Cure this increment of composite for 10 seconds using a curing light (Ivoclar Vivadent’s bluephase G2). STEP Apply composite on the lingual wall (Fig. 7) of the preparation and base of box. Again, avoid the contact area. Cure 10 seconds. STEP Remove the isolation band from the tooth. Apply an increment of Shade A2 Tetric EvoCeram composite into the contact area. Considering that one of the most frustrating and difficult tasks is achieving tight contacts when placing posterior restorations, its handling characteristics combined with the total-etch technique enable clinicians to realize greater efficiency and predictability when providing these direct composite restorations to their patients.
