Manufacturers are leapfrogging each others’ efforts to come up with innovative sleeping aids. Here’s a roundup: Iovate Health Sciences is premiering Sleep Fast liqui caps. The firm claims that the fast-acting and long-lasting dual-release Liqui-Pulse capsules release sleep gel-matrix and micro beads within minutes and throughout the night. Ingredients include B12, LTheanine, melatonin, lavender powder (flower & leaf), hops extract, gardenia gummifera powder (gum resin), passionflower extract (aerial parts), and sweet violet extract (aerial parts). Concepts in Health, Blauvelt, N.Y., is introducing MidNite, an herbal supplement for occasional sleeplessness. Ingredients include lemon balm, lavender, chamomile, and melatonin. The chewable tablets, which come in blister packages, do not require water. The product is supposed to be taken before going to sleep or any time during the night, ideally with at least three hours of sleep left before awakening. The firm claims the product helps get users back to sleep fast anytime, and wake alert. Alka-Seltzer PM is an entry from Bayer HealthCare. The effervescent tablets are intended to provide relief from pain, body aches, headaches, and sleeplessness. Not to be outdone, McNeil Consumer Healthcare is offering Tylenol PM Simply Sleep while Wyeth is rolling out Advil PM Liqui-Gels. The firm claims the product rushes real liquid relief where it hurts and eases one to sleep. GlaxoSmithKline’s sleep aid offerings include Nytol Fast Dissolving Quick Caps and Maximum Strength Quick Gels. Debuting from Miralus Healthcare is HeadOn P.M. Pain Reliever/Sleep Aid for the temporary relief of occasional headaches with accompanying sleeplessness. Ingredients include bryonia alba (white bryoney), kris versicolor (blue flag), kali bichromicum (potassium bichromate), and hydrastis canadensis (golden seal). Rise-N-Shine, Sparta, N.J., is launching Wake Up On Time, a supplement that is intended to be taken before bedtime to help people wake up on time. The delayed-release tablet contains a blend of B vitamins, C amino acids, guarana seed, and Siberian ginseng. Enzymatic Therapy is taking the wraps off Alluna Sleep, an herbal supplement that is supposed to help relieve occasional sleeplessness. According to the company, the formulation combines the gentle natural, sleep-promoting properties of the valerian plant and hops. Alluna Sleep is intended to promote users’ own natural sleep pattern. Xenadrine Sleep Plus Nighttime Weight Loss & Sleeping Aid with L-tryptophan is available from Cytodyne Technologies. This product is designed to both reduce weight and promote sleep. Melatonin Liquid is a new entry from Natol. The product contains 2.5 mg of melatonin per serving and is supposed to help establish normal sleep patterns. Unisom SleepGels Gelcaps are available from Chattem. The active ingredient in the liquid-filled SoftGels is diphenhydramine HCl 50 mg. MDProducts is unveiling SleepMD. The firm claims the product is non-habit forming and is diphenhydramine-free. Hyland’s homeopathic offerings include Hyland’s Calms Forte, Hyland’s Calms Forte 4 Kids, and Hyland’s Insomnia. Bach Rescue Sleep is a homeopathic remedy from Nelsons that is supposed to calm a restless mind and provide safe, natural relief for occasional sleeplessness caused by stress and repetitive thoughts. Yet another entry is Dr. Weil’s Sleep Support Formula capsules, which are intended to help your body relax while promoting a deep, restful sleep. The formula contains 5 HTP, which the firm claims can be converted by the body into serotonin, a neurotransmitter that supports better sleep quality, resulting in a more relaxed feeling. Also included are Lemon Balm and Valerian Root. Alternative Health Products is making available LunaSom PM Capsules. Ingredients include melatonin, valerian, chamomile, and white willow bark.
