Here’s a look at some of the choices that are available: Advanced Medical Optics is launching blink Tears, a new line of over-the-counter lubricating eye drops designed for people who suffer from occasional or chronic dry eye symptoms. The firm claims that the drops include a blend of ingredients found naturally in the eye and that product benefits include the following: long-lasting relief with less blurring of vision; greater than 60-minute retention time; replenished tear film with each blink; and improved tear film stability. Allergan is making available OPTIVE Lubricant Eye Drops. The firm claims the company’s latest advance in artificial tear technology with an advanced dual-action formula provides long-lasting relief from dry eye symptoms. GenTeal GelDrops is available from Novartis for relief of significant redness, itching, burning, irritation, and mucous discharge. Novartis is also marketing GenTeal PM Ointment for relief of persistent irritating, pain and lid closure problems. The product is being touted as “ideal for nighttime use.” J&J is offering Visine Tears Lasting Relief for the temporary relief of burning, irritation, and discomfort due to dryness of the eye or exposure to wind or sun. J&J claims the product is for advanced dry eye relief and that it moisturizes and protects eyes. Allergan has updated packaging for Allergan’s REFRESH brand of artificial tears and dry eye products to help consumers more easily find which product is best for their particular dry eye needs. Alcon Laboratories’ latest development is Opti-Free RepleniSH multipurpose disinfecting solution. It can be used with all types of lenses including silicone hydrogels, according to Alcon. Novartis is providing Zaditor Eye Drops. The company claims the drops are strong enough to last up to 12 hours with just one drop. The product contains an antihistamine that is supposed to “relieve the itch in minutes.” Bausch & Lomb markets Alaway Eye Itch Relief. The OTC is designed to provide temporary relief of itchy eyes due to ragweed, pollen, grass, animal hair, and dander. Mentholatum is expanding its Rohto line with Rohto V. Arctic. The product, which is designed to soothe eye strain provides a long-lasting cooling sensation, according to the company. Simalasan is offering Computer Eye Relief eye drops, which are designed to stimulate the eye’s natural ability to relieve eye strain due to intense computer work, TV, reading, writing, or driving at night. Prestige Brands’ entry is Clear Eyes ExtraRelief Lubricant Eye Redness Reliever for the temporary relief of redness due to minor eye irritation. Advanced Vision Research, makers of TheraTear Brand Lubricant Eye Drops, is unveiling SteriLid Eyelid Cleaner, an antibacterial lid foam designed for maintaining eyelid hygiene. EPS is releasing Autodrop and Autosqueeze instillation aids for patients who have difficulty taking ophthalmic preparations. The EPS Autodrop device clips onto the majority of eyedrop bottles and holds the bottle at the correct angle over the eye. A small lip holds the lower eyelid open to prevent blinking while a unique pinhole directs the eyesight upward, away from descending Autodrop eye drops. The Autosqueeze device helps patients with weak or arthritic fingers easily grasp and dispense ophthalmic medication. PrimaVu Herbal Eye Wash is a homeopathic product premiering from Molecular Health Commerce Inc. The drops are intended to provide relief for dry, tired eyes associated with low humidity, air pollution and dust; smoke, wind, salt, and chlorine; and computer vision syndrome. Ingredients include Eyebright and German chamomile botanical tinctures. DT http://www.drugtopics.com
