The standards adopted under the rule will apply to all Part D sponsors, as well as to prescribers and dispensers that electronically transmit prescriptions and prescription-related information about Part D covered drugs prescribed for Part D eligible individuals. The new standards will be effective on April 1, 2009. gave the FDA a petition signed by nearly 56,000 consumers asking that a toll-free number and Web site be included in all TV drug ads so they can easily report their serious side effects to the agency. Uninsured patients in New Jersey gain access to new drug discount card A new discount drug card is now available to the uninsured in New Jersey. The Prescription-Savings Card is a partnership between QualCare (www.qualcare inc.com), a managed care insurer based in Piscataway, N.J., and the Medical Society of New Jersey (MSNJ). Physicians who participate in QualCare or are members of MSNJ can offer these cards at no cost to their needy patients. Using the card, patients can get discounts at up to 50% off for prescription drugs and even more for generics at any one of 50,000 pharmacies nationwide. The discounts are obtained through rebates from manufacturers and savings offered by pharmacies. New poll: TV drug ads should include info on how to report side effects A new Consumer Reports poll shows that one in six Americans who have ever taken a prescription drug experienced a side effect serious enough to send them to the doctor or hospital, but the majority of consumers don’t know they can report these side effects to the Food & Drug Administration.
