Hester Sr., R.Ph., has worked hard all his life with little time for his own relaxation. When it came time for his retirement, following more than 50 years of practice in both retail and hospital pharmacy settings, his children purchased six art lessons for him as a gift, because he had told them repeatedly that he thought he could paint. Ever since then, painting has become a relaxing and creative hobby for Hester. He estimates that over the past 15 years, he has produced several hundred pieces on a variety of subjects. The Leawood, Kan., pharmacist told Drug Topics that many of his paintings now hang on the walls in his children’s homes. He has never put any of his paintings up for sale, al- B Kenneth D. Hester, R.Ph. though some have been donated to charity for auction. His pharmacist friends think his paintings may have value as collectibles. Still attending a senior citizen’s art class at a community center, Hester said his teacher has been suggesting to him that he offer prints of his paintings for sale. So he is now looking into the possibility of offering lithograph prints of his apothecary art for sale to the public.
