What products are available to prevent outdoor enthusiasts from becoming prey to annoying and biting insects? Here’s a sampling of products that manufacturers are unleashing: Tender Corp. is unveiling Natrapel 8 hour. The company claims that the product, which contains 20% of the active ingredient picaridin, is non-oily, non-greasy, and offers a mild scent. Natrapel 8 hour is supposed to offer up to eight hours of protection from mosquitoes, black flies, ticks, and other biting insects. The item comes in a 3.5-oz. pump as well as 12-piece wipes. Tender Corp. is also introducing AfterBite Outdoor Combo Pak. The firm claims the product eliminates the pain and itching of insect bites and stings and even marine life stings from jelly fish. Jason Natural Cosmetics is offering Jason Quit Bugging Me Natural Insect Repellent Spray. The product is DEET-, PABA-, and paraben-free and is non-greasy and designed to keep mosquitoes, gnats, horseflies, black, and biting flies away, according to the company. Quantum Health is marketing Buzz Away Insect Repellent. The item contains citronella oil, castor oil, and essential oils of cedarwood, peppermint, and eucalyptus. The product is intended to repel mosquitoes, gnats, blackflies, and no-see-ums. S.C. Johnson is premiering OFF! FamilyCare Smooth & Dry, from the makers of Skintastic. The company claims the product, the first cornstarch aerosol repellent in the United States, “goes on dry, feels comfortable, and has a pleasant scent.” It contains 15% DEET to ward off mosquitoes for up to six hours. S.C. Johnson is also trotting out OFF! PowerPad Lamp and OFF! PowerPad Lantern. Both items use heat-activated pads that are supposed to repel mosquitoes covering an area of up to 225 square feet. Once the lit candle heats the pad, the repellent in the pad is released to provide protection. Chattem is launching BullFrog Mosquito Coast SPF 30. The fast-drying spray product is designed to offer SPF 30 UVA/UVB protection from sunburn and bug bites in one easy-to-use product. The company claims the item provides DEET-free and family-friendly mosquito protection without the smelly odor. BullFrog Mosquito Coast is supposed to repel mosquitoes for up to eight hours. Spectrum Brands is unwrapping Backwoods Cutter Mosquito Wipes. The firm claims that the wipes are ideal for active families that spend many hours outdoors, repel mosquitoes for up to eight hours in areas of heavy mosquito activity, and provide all-day protection plus all the advantages of an easy-to-use wipe. The wipes are designed to allow controlled application to sensitive areas, such as the face and neck, and enable coverage of other hard-to-reach areas such as the back of the legs. The wipes come in a 20-count re-sealable snapshut canister and are formulated with DEET. Burt’s Bees is introducing an improved Burt’s Bees Herbal Insect Repellent. Ingredients include lemongrass oil, citronella oil, rosemary oil, grape seed oil, and Vitamin E. The item “bans the creeping, crawling, winging, stinging, sucking, bugging, biting beasties.” Homs LLC is unveiling a line of Bite Blocker repellents with BioUD. According to the company, BioUD is a new insect repellent that is made from a natural extract from wild tomato plant species. The company’s collection of products includes Bite Blocker BioUD Insect Repellent and Clothing Treatment, Bite Blocker Insect Repellent Herbal Wipes, Bite Blocker BioUD Insect Repellent 1, Sport Bite Blocker, and Organic Bite Blocker Xtreme. The company claims that BioUD demonstrates 100% repellency against mosquitoes up to three hours after application and 99% repellency up to 4.5 hours in forest and marsh conditions. In addition, the company states that BioUd has been shown to be effective against ticks. Kaz is making available BugOff! Kids Kolorz Wrist Bands in fun colors for children. The bands are DEET-free and are suppposed to reduce mosquito landings by 50%. Kaz also offers BugOff! Glow-in-the-dark Wrist Bands for night-time use. http://www.drugtopics.com
