Bioequivalent to Prometheus Laboratories’ Zyloprim, allopurinol is indicated for the management of patients with signs and symptoms of primary or secondary gout; management of patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and malignancies who are receiving therapy that causes elevations of serum and urinary uric acid levels; and management of patients with recurrent calcium oxalate calculi whose daily uric acid excretion is elevated. Watson Pharmaceuticals has received final approval from the FDA for albuterol sulfate inhalation solution in 0.021% (base) and 0.042% (base). The product, which offers a generic alternative to AccuNeb, from Dey, L.P., is used for the relief of bronchospasm in patients age two to 12 years with asthma. Sandoz has gained FDA approval for ciclopirox topical solution, a generic version of Dermik’s Penlac, a nail lacquer indicated for the treatment of fungal infections of the fingernails and toenails … Sandoz is also launching an extension of its line of amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for oral suspension. This newest product will be available in 600 mg/42.9 mg per 5-mL strength for treating bacterial infections. It is a generic equivalent to GlaxoSmithKline’s Augmentin ES-600. Sandoz offers amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium in a number of other strengths in oral suspension, tablet, and chewabletablet formulations. Minneapolis-based Paddock Laboratories is offering clotrimazole lozenges 10 mg as an alternative to Mycelex Troches, from Bayer-Roche.
