Drug Topics - December 12, 2008 - (Page 9) DRUG TOPICS Margaret Mulligan, BA, BSN, RN From the Editor Drug Topics closes the circle — all 360 degrees Druggist’s Circular (precursor to Drug Topics) debuted in 1857. This new communication vehicle linked pharmacists in a professional community through unique and focused content, using the cutting-edge information-delivery technology of the day. As pharmacy practice has changed over the past 151 years, Drug Topics has led the way with content and information delivery. We are continually changing to better meet your information needs, both in print and electronic media. You’ve likely noticed the new logo on the cover, as well as the new look throughout. You spoke and we listened. Your input helped to redesign the look of Drug Topics. The result: an integrated redesign — thanks to artists Rob McGarr and Pete Seltzer — that will move you to the information you need more efficiently. One important component of this integration is across the page — our first installment of the 360 Network, your guide to the expansive offerings at http://www.modernmedicine. com — and a focal point of our new direction. The 360 Network channels illustrated on page 8 are a handy listing of our multimedia offerings. You can follow the 360 Network logo throughout each print issue to learn how our feature stories and columns are complemented by additional resources online. The 360 Guide is your portal to a wealth of coverage at modernmedicine.com — a comprehensive blend of content geared toward the audiences of Drug Topics and the many other healthcare publications of our parent company, Advanstar Communications. At modernmedicine.com, you’ll find feature stories, insightful interviews, exclusive podcasts, video, blogs, the latest healthcare news and clinical updates. Ours is only one of the voices at modernmedicine.com. You can join the conversation by taking part in our online polls and sounding off on our stories. In the coming months, we’ll introduce new ways for you to be part of the action. To help make these enhanced offerings a reality, a dedicated editorial team will help expand the depth and breadth of our healthcare offerings, and support our drive toward innovative information delivery. This team will work handin-hand with the editorial staff of Drug Topics, developing multimedia approaches to the issues most vital to you. The Centralized Content Group, as the new team is called, is based at Advanstar’s editorial offices in Cleveland. Steve Morris, executive vice president of Advanstar’s Life Science Group, explains, “These changes to Advanstar’s business structure mirror our strategic push for the continuous innovation of information delivery — and our commitment to engage with each audience in the way it prefers.” There are also exciting, positive changes in the editorial operation of Drug Topics. We have a top-notch Clevelandbased editorial and art staff: Managing Editor Mark Lowery, Senior Editors Alaina Scott and Julianne Stein, and Art Director Stan Bujak. I have come on board as staff editor-in-chief (EIC). This will be in addition to my post as staff EIC for the peerreviewed journal Formulary, also published by Advanstar. I have been in healthcare publishing and communications for more than 20 years. I am also a registered nurse. My areas of clinical expertise are critical care and transplant medicine. Our team will continue to bring you information and news from key opinion leaders to help you advance in your profession, through our core coverage pillars: issues and trends; professional; regulatory and legal; clinical; product updates (OTC and prescription, including specialty drugs); and technology. You might say that our 360 spin has returned us to where we started, in terms of serving your every career need as we have since 1857. Druggist’s Circular created a new community, built around focused content and innovative information delivery — a tradition we carry on into the 21st century.
