Field Notes P E R S P ECTIVE S F ROM E XP E R I E NC E D MOB I LE P ROF E S S IONALS Through my contract at MFGCH, I practice on a neurosurgical unit. It is definitely one of the best places I’ve ever worked. The regular staff and travelers enjoy an exceptional camaraderie. Everyone helps each other out; we’re a real team in every sense of the word. I have been there for 6 months and will be at the facility for another 5 months before my contract expires. In addition to the relationships that I’ve developed with my coworkers, I also feel fortunate to have a special friendship with my recruiter. He’s always responsive to my needs, and I sincerely appreciate the effort he puts into finding assignments that are just right for me. Lifelong learning I especially recommend traveling to other healthcare professionals because of the educational opportunities it presents. A clinician may know a dozen different ways to perform a single procedure. But you can bet that as a traveler, he or she would learn at least a dozen more. Apart from adapting to changing colleagues and protocols, I have learned a lot about other cultures and customs. I’ve been able to apply this knowledge to other areas of my life, as well. I am on a managerial track with my education, so I’ll probably teach or work in an administrative capacity eventually. But I will continue to travel for as long as I can. I’d go back to New York City in a heartbeat and would love to see Alaska someday. For now, though, I’m happy to be right here.
