much easier because Clarence and I can get a better idea of what a park entails.” Campground amenities can range from the most basic water and electrical hookups to the more extravagant offerings, such as tennis courts, golf courses, and health spas. It has been Marilyn’s experience that places in traditional snowbird areas provide more options. “In Arizona, for example, there were crafts rooms, billiards, water aerobics classes, and workout rooms,” she says.“Here, there is a swimming pool, and a gorgeous lake is just a short walk away. “That is the beauty of living in an RV: You can be in the mountains, surrounded by trees, or lakeside,” continues Marilyn. “You can be in any part of the country and experience all kinds of settings. For Clarence and me, it’s perfect. We love moving around. I can see us doing this for the next 8 to 10 years, right up until I retire.” A second home Pat Owen, RN, spent the majority of her 34-year career as an emergency department nurse in a traditional full-time position. But she also has a penchant for adventure that needs to be fulfilled; first as a helicopter flight nurse, and now as a traveler. Professional adventure, however, doesn’t mean she has to forego the comforts of home, which is why she and her husband, Dave, have opted to bypass the company-provided housing in favor of their fifth-wheel RV. “Dave and I always talked about taking off in an RV once our children were grown and on their own,” relates Pat. “We just hadn’t thought about me being able to work while we went on the road.” Yet when Pat discovered that combining both goals was a viable option, she and Dave wholeheartedly embraced the idea. “I was burning out in my full-time position and tired of the politics that go along with being part of a core staff,” says the mobile nurse who travels exclusively through West Chester, Ohio-based Advantage RN. “Besides, there were things I wanted to see elsewhere.” Pat first set out as a traveler 5 years ago and has spent nearly the whole time living in a fifth-wheel RV she and Dave tow with a diesel truck. “The RV is very comfortable. It even has a fireplace.
