Of course, she does not spend all of her off hours in the RV.“California has so many places to visit,” says Pat.“Dave and I have gone to Yosemite National Park, Napa Valley, and San Francisco. We also hike and explore outdoor areas.” Although her immediate plans are uncertain, Pat knows traveling to new assignments in the fifth-wheel is definitely part of her future. The details One of the biggest differences between living in an RV and accepting agency-provided housing is that the responsibility of finding a conveniently located park or campground is up to you, the traveler.“Even before your name is submitted for a contract, research location choices,” suggests Amy. “You should know what options are available to you before accepting an assignment.” Fortunately, there are numerous websites to assist you (see the “Internet Resources” box on this page). The cost of staying in an RV park varies from site to site. But to offset the expense, most staffing companies either pay their travelers a housing stipend or higher hourly rates.“We calculate the amount based on the cost of living in the particular location,” says Amy.“It typically covers all fees.Additionally, all of our clinicians receive travel reimbursements determined by the distance they drive between assignments. Of course, this is the case whether they commandeer RVs or small passenger cars.” Knowing how high gas prices will climb may be anyone’s guess. But, at this point in time, the added expense does not appear to be curtailing travelers’ passion for their homes on wheels.
