Currently, it is available in every state except Texas. RN to BSN. This degree completion program is designed for working registered nurses with an associate degree or diploma certificate, building on each student’s past education and experience. It offers a flexible and practical way for RNs to expand their knowledge and prepare for leadership positions in a variety of settings, providing the skills and credentials necessary to pursue graduate education. The program aims to present an overview of healthcare accounting, reimbursement, legal statutes, and information technology skills needed for managerial nursing positions; expose the student to nursing and healthcare philosophy and theories necessary for collaborative and interdisciplinary leadership; provide students with an understanding of the professional nursing role in the healthcare team; and encourage students to participate in continuing education activities and maintain memberships in professional organizations. It is comprised of 190 quarter credits, including 49 quarter credits in the Nursing Major Core, which must be completed through NAU with a minimum grade of “C.” Courses are 11 weeks in duration, with a few courses being 5.5 weeks, and all coursework must be completed within the specific time frame for the particular course. Students are not required to communicate with their instructors every day. Instead, they can complete assignments at times that are convenient for them, but must log on/attend at least once during each week. Submitting an assignment or quiz, or participating in a discussion as outlined in each course, constitutes attendance. Admission requirements include an associate degree or diploma in nursing, current RN license, and a minimum GPA of 2.8. Graduates will be prepared to apply transcultural communication concepts and principles in gathering assessment data; develop culturally appropriate nursing diagnoses and implement quality care; use fundamental principles, regulations, statutes, and technological resources to meet patient care and budgetary demands; utilize published research to improve patient care; articulate specific theoretical rules and principles for the purpose of explaining nursing experiences, ideas, and concepts; and apply management and leadership principles to define success strategies for first level professional nurse managers.
