As decades passed, it underwent changes—from being established as a seminary to transitioning into a state normal school and, ultimately, becoming a university in 1983. MU offers students the feel of a small, liberal arts college with the resources of a large institution. Accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, Expanding Horizons Going the Distance Allied Corner 60 62 it proffers seven 2-year associate degree programs in liberal arts and professional studies, 42 4-year baccalaureate programs, and nine master’s degree programs. For over 12 years, MU has offered students the opportunity to continue their education at their convenience through distance learning. In fact, it was the first university in Pennsylvania to launch an online graduate program. Today, nurses may enroll in an RN-BSN degree program or the MSN degree program to prepare nurse educators, giving them the versatility of studying from home so they can more easily manage family and work commitments.
