Other required courses include two business courses, statistics, ethics, and advance human biology. Interested nurses can register for distance learning courses in two ways. Registration can be completed for free by mailing an application or by applying online. Applicants must have a diploma or associate degree, showing graduation from an accredited RN program and a current nursing license. Prospective students can apply directly to the Department of Nursing. Once accepted to the RN to BSN program, students are granted acceptance to Ashland University. Transcripts for all academic work are required before acceptance is given. Applicants must have a C- or better grade to transfer credits (all BSN students are considered transfer students). Once in the program, students must maintain a C or better grade to stay enrolled. A minimum of 128 hours (30 semester hours of credit from Ashland University), a cumulative 2.25 GPA in the nursing major, and a minimum grade point average of 2.0 overall are required to graduate. Ashland University’s RN to BSN program integrates nursing theory and application with a liberal arts education, which expands the skills of professional nurses to help them meet all necessary challenges. The program also provides a strong foundation for a graduate education in nursing. Technology requirements In order to participate in online courses, students must have the base requirements, which include a PC with an Intel, AMD, or Celeron 1.8GHz Processor with 512 MB SDRAM. Suggested operating systems include Genuine Windows® XP Professional, SP2, x32. All systems should have an Intel, ATI Radeon, or NVIDIA video card with a 128Mb SVRAM; an 80GB SATA hard drive with 8MB DataBurst Cache; and an 8X DVD+/-RW DVD/CD burner). A DSL/ Cable Modem with 384 down speed and 256 up speed is required. Crucial software includes Microsoft Office 2003 or 2007, Windows Media Player 10, Internet Explorer 5.5, and Adobe Acrobat Reader. Additional required A/V and hardware include two USB connections, stereo headphones with a built in microphone, and Ethernet 10/100 network jack. The RN to BSN program integrates nursing theory and application with a liberal arts education, which expands the skills of professional nurses to help them meet all necessary challenges. Courses can be completed in just four semesters of part-time study under the direction of academic advisors from the nursing faculty. Classes are kept small in order to offer direct attention and quick feedback. Thirty hours of credit from previous nursing education and experience are granted at the completion of the first clinical course and count toward the graduation requirements. Students can transfer credits from basic nursing programs and college work. All applicants for the RN to BSN program must have a diploma or associate’s degree in nursing (no LPNs will be accepted).
