I like seeing the new products, talking to salespeople about what I can use their products for. I feel that it helps me stay on top of new technologies. I also attend any oral or poster presentations that I find are pertinent and am able to take away many new ideas for my own project,” she said. “I’m sure that having a lot of this information via the internet may reach a broader audience, but I think it’s good for scientists to be forced to have actual human contact with other scientists. One thing you get from Pittcon that you don’t get on the web is laughter. I heard a lot of laughter and saw a lot of smiles this year at Pittcon. I think I’m more inclined to attend an actual conference than something on the internet. For me, while watching something on the internet, I feel that I’m wasting my time and that I could be doing research. So I put it off until the evening, and then I’m at home and I don’t want to be thinking about work,” she added.
