Although fashion forecasters have been predicting a return to simplicity and minimalism, spring 2008 will continue to show some “bling” with crystals, studs, and other accents embellishing apparel. Details such as washes, felt appliqués, foil, felting, flocking, baseball stitching, and die-cut patches also will decorate apparel and accessories. In addition to taking direction from the music industry, designers such as Jib Hunt and the Calavena collection are taking cues from the art scene. Art is undoubtedly playing a more dominant role and forecasters predict that consumers will become more interested in the value of artistry in seasons to come.
