GROUP EDITOR Patricia Stille Lederman, plederman@advanstar.com MANAGING EDITOR Patricia Cusimano, pcusimano@advanstar.com ASSOCIATE EDITOR Wishing you healthy travels is the season. Even with the poor economic outlook, many Americans will still be traveling over the holidays for business and pleasure. As a part-time or full-time locum tenens professional, you have the added luxury of being reimbursed for travel expenses while seeing the country and earning a competitive income. Perhaps you have accepted a short contract during this hectic time so others can spend a few days off with their families. Or, you may already be on location—possibly near your own relatives—providing coverage throughout the fall and winter. Then again, you could be taking advantage of school breaks to combine a family vacation with an opportunity, like the locum tenens physician and CRNA highlighted in our cover story on page 10. Whatever your plans, if you are traveling by air, you may have a treat in store—on the ground. This month, Health magazine released its Top 10 list of America’s Healthiest Airports. Phoenix Sky Harbor International scored the Number One spot with healthful eats, a video paging system, and two pet parks. Baltimore/ Washington International ranked second, promising a less stressful experience with its “SLOW DOWN. You resident spa, 12.5-mile hiking and biking path just may be entering an through wetlands and forested areas, and soft airport’s relaxation zone.” music and more comfortable lighting implemented by the Transportation Security Administration’s Checkpoint Evolution program. The world’s secondbusiest airport, O’Hare International, came in third, thanks to the healthy menus of over 90% of its restaurants, children’s play areas, and on-site fitness facilities with a day pass for just $15. Other winners were recognized for a “StormReady airport system” (Detroit Metropolitan), green power (Denver International), museumquality artwork (Ronald Reagan Washington National), green fleet (Dallas/ Fort Worth International), green construction (Logan International), paths connecting the airport with local businesses and recreational trails (Portland International), and a new “AeroClinic” staffed with mid-level providers (Philadelphia International). So the next time you are rushing through Patricia Stille Lederman the airport, slow down. Think healthy. You Group Editor just may be entering a relaxation zone.
