During that era, workers removed from the mountain a total amount of copper worth approximately $200 million—one of the most plentiful deposits ever discovered in the United States. In its heyday, about 600 people were employed in the community, which contained a general store, schoolhouse, hospital, dairy, recreation hall, and sports fields. Today, visitors can take a guided tour of some of the buildings during the summer months. Can you name the attraction? It’s anyone’s guess.
