The State of Virginia, for example, already has hired more than 50 new employees in its tax office to administer collections activity for delinquent accounts. If you have been delinquent on any state taxes, you may be given the chance to pay the money back with reduced penalties and interest. With more states hurting for revenue due to the ongoing financial crisis, many likely will be offering amnesty programs in the next few years to raise funds. GETTING HELP As a locum tenens professional who currently provides temporary services in multiple states—or a physician or non-physician provider interested in expanding your opportunities—take steps to become aware of state tax issues. Proactively managing them can prove beneficial at tax time.
