We emphasized how body and paint, mechanics shops, restoration shops and specialty parts retailers can expand their businesses and shore up that all-important bottom line by becoming involved in these exciting and profi table market segments. In this particular issue, we’re going to showcase the 1967-72 Chevrolet/GMC light-duty trucks and show how these American truck icons can put dollars and cents into your cash register. I THE TRUCKING HISTORY Pleasantly styled and attractively priced, Chevrolet/GMC’s new “aero design” light-duty trucks were introduced September 11, 1966. The chassis on these ‘67s featured strong 3x6-inch, two-piece stamped-steel dual rail construction, and included “passenger carlike” independent upper and lower control arm/coil spring front suspension with mono tube shocks. The GM/Saginaw steering gear and drum brakes were standard on the ‘67-68 models. Rear suspension on the ‘67 Chevrolet/GMCs consisted of coil spring with staggered mono tube shocks. On some GMC light-duty truck models, rear leaf spring suspension was standard. Conversely, rear end gearing across the board included anything from a 3.08:1 to 3.73:1 housed in a 12-bolt live rear axle. The new Chevrolet/GMC light-duty trucks were available in two load ratings (1/2 ton and 3/4 ton) and a number of different wheelbases. First up were the 1/2- and 3/4-ton 90- and 108-inch wheelbase “G-10.” Also available was the 1/2- and 3/4-ton 115- and 127-inch wheelbase “C-10,” and lastly there was the 1/2-ton, 115- and 127-inch wheelbase “K-Series.” 12
