Pharmaceutical Executive Digest Europe - February 3, 2009 - (Page 3) News Phidea-Marvin merger completed Phidea and Marvin Research, two contract research organisations based in Italy, have completed a merger. The new company, Phidea Marvin srl will have its legal and operating headquarters in Milan while continuing to run offices in Madrid, Spain. The new company will offer protocol design, regulatory affairs, site selection, clinical monitoring, data management, statistical analysis and medical writing, in addition to observational and epidemiological studies. The terms of the merger were not disclosed. For more on these news stories and all the latest breaking pharma news, look at our website www.pharmexeceurope.com Boost for Norwegian biotech The Norwegian biotechnology industry has been given a boost, after the country’s government made explicit provision for life sciences and innovation research within its $2.87 billion (NOK20bn) stimulus package. As part of the package, Innovation Norway, a state development agency, will increase the amount of loans it makes to research-intensive companies. Furthermore, Argentum, the Norwegian government fund which invests in private equity groups, will also receive more money to invest in innovation-focused companies. More than 80% of the country’s biotechnology industry is focused on cancer research and had this support not been given it is thought that many of these companies may have gone bankrupt, threatening the loss of 50 cancer products currently in clinical trials.
