Pharmaceutical Executive Digest Europe - February 11, 2009 - (Page 16) ON THE MOVE GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has appointed James Murdoch, 36, son of media baron Rupert Murdoch, as a nonexecutive director. Mr Murdoch, chairman and chief executive of News Corporation Europe and Asia, will join the main board and GSK’s corporate responsibility committee. He commences the £75,000-a-year post in May. Penn Pharma (UK) has appointed Darren Hassey as operations director. Darren, 36, joins Penn with a wealth of experience within operations roles across the pharmaceutical industry spanning development, quality, in-licensing, manufacturing and operational excellence. He will be responsible for all operational areas on site. Cambridge, UK based biopharm company Xention Limited has appointed Dr Keith McCullagh as the new non-executive chairman of its board. Dr McCullagh is an experienced biotech entrepreneur. From 2003 until his retirement last year he was CEO of Santaris Pharma, the Danish RNA medicines company. From 2000 to 2003 he was the founding chairman of OnMedica Group plc, a European pharmaceutical e-detailing business. MorphoSys AG (Germany) has appointed Dieter Feger to be the new head of its antibody service unit, AbD Serotec. Mr Feger was previously marketing director, Global Marketing, at Abbott Diagnostics, a unit of Abbott Laboratories, where he had responsibility for infectiousdisease products. He replaces Dieter Lingelbach, who has left MorphoSys to pursue new opportunities. Acacia Pharma (UK) has announced that Ian Kent has joined its board of directors as non-executive chairman. Ian has previously acted as chairman and non-executive director of a number of successful biotechnology companies. He is currently xhairman of Intercytex Group plc, Argenta Discovery Limited and Avantium Holdings BV.
