News UCB sells key product to niche pharma group Belgian biopharm company UCB has agreed to sell worldwide rights to its antihaemorrhagic product SomatostatineUCB to the European niche pharma group Eumedica. Somatostatine-UCB is indicated for the treatment of acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding resulting from gastric and duodenal ulcers and has been used in hospitals in more than 25 markets worldwide for more than 20 years. Galapagos awarded Flanders government grant Galapagos NV (Mechelen, Belgium) has been awarded a €837,000 grant from the Flanders government to elucidate the structure of novel drug targets and related small molecules in its bone & joint disease portfolio. The grant, awarded through the Institute for the Promotion of Innovation by Science and Technology (IWT) will help fund Galapagos’ twoyear project “Drug discovery for bone and joint protection.” The company will collaborate on the project with the Structural Biology Brussels group at the Flanders Institute for Biotechnology. Galapagos currently employs 470 people and operates facilities in six countries.
