Pharmaceutical Executive Digest Europe - March 4, 2009 - (Page 14) ON THE MOVE MorphoSys AG (Munich, Germany) has appointed Dr Ulrich Moebius as head of Pre-clinical Development & Project Management. Dr Moebius joins from biopharmaceutical company Medigene, where he spent nine years as head of Preclinical Development. Prior to his tenure at Medigene, he spent five years with the Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum DKFZ, Heidelberg. Morag Peberdy has joined UK law firm Covington & Burling as counsel in the intellectual property group. Ms Peberdy’s practice covers all aspects of contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters, including licensing, M&A and litigation. In 2002, she was awarded Higher Rights of Audience by the Supreme Court of England and Wales, entitling her to act as an advocate. Serentis (Cambridge, UK), a privately owned biopharmaceutical company, has announced the appointment of Dr Robert Tansley as chief medical officer. Before joining Serentis, Robert was the development & medical Director of Sosei R&D. Previously, he served in a variety of roles in development and regulatory affairs at Sanofi, Roche, Arakis and as a medical assessor in the Licensing Division of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in the UK. RSA (UK) is expanding its interim management practice in Scotland to meet the country’s shortfall in staff for its growing biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. The expansion of the biotech sector in Scotland, backed by the Scottish Parliament, has led to shortages in skilled staff. Evy Young, who is heading up RSA’s Scottish Interims practice, said: “We need more candidates because there are currently jobs in biotech as well as pharma.” The main biotech centres in Scotland are based around the universities in Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. Highly-skilled interim managers are ideal for smaller, spin-out companies that need different talents at different times in their development. Interims can help to steer them in the right direction and offer independent advice. Evy added: “In a downturn, funding is a major issue for everyone at the moment, but the Scottish Executive is still investing in this sector alongside private sources. Interim managers, with extensive experience, offer an ideal flexible solution for companies who do not need more permanent or even full-time staff.” EDITORIAL ADVISORY BOARD Pharmaceutical Executive Europe’s Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) is a distinguished group of specialists who represent various facets of the pharmaceutical industry.
