Pharmaceutical Executive Digest Europe - March 11, 2009 - (Page 3) News BioAlliance breaks alliance with SpePharm French specialty pharmaceutical company BioAlliance Pharma has announced the termination of the licensing agreement signed in 2007 with SpeBio (a joint venture with SpePharm). The exclusive license in EU countries other than France covered the distribution of Loramyc, a mucoadhesive buccal tablet for treating oropharyngeal candidiasis. BioAlliance has initiated legal proceedings in Paris against SpeBio for violation of the latter’s contractual obligations and in order to obtain appropriate compensation for losses suffered as a result of delays in commercialisation and sale of Loramyc. The company is “confident” in ensuring the continued Europe-wide commercialisation of Loramyc directly in selected countries and through specialist oncology partners in other countries. Flemish government awards €3 million to ThromboGenics ThromboGenics NV (Belgium), a biotechnology company focused on innovative treatments for eye disease, vascular disease and cancer, has been awarded a grant of up to €3.2 million for the continued development of its Anti-VPAC1 antibody for the treatment of thrombocytopenia (low platelet count). The grant will help support the development of the novel product, which is expected to begin clinical trials in 2011. The grant has been provided by the Institute for the promotion of Innovation by Science and Technology in Flanders (IWT) and is based on the successful completion of a series of development milestones over the next three years. Research undertaken by ThromboGenics in conjunction with the University of Leuven, Belgium, has shown that the inhibition of VPAC1mediated signalling could stimulate the production of platelets. 1 11 NEWS BRUSSELS REPORT 2 FROM THE EDITOR / NEWS 6 TWITTER 9 GENERICS 13 CALENDAR 14 ON THE MOVE CLICK TO SUBSCRIBE TO PHARM EXEC http://www.bioalliancepharma.com/eng/ http://www.spepharm.com http://www.thrombogenics.com http://www.iwt.be/iwt_engels/general.html http://www.iwt.be/iwt_engels/general.html http://www.iwt.be/iwt_engels/general.html http://www.kendle.com http://www.kendle.com http://www.pharmexeceurope.com/europharmexec/newsletter/subscribeNewsletter.jsp
