Pharmaceutical Executive Digest Europe - March 18, 2009 - (Page 13) ON THE MOVE UK-based bioscience company Penn Pharma has appointed James Knapp as business development executive. The newly created role is based at the company’s North American affiliate in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mr Knapp, based in West Chester, Pennsylvania, joins Penn after a successful seven-year tenure at Almac Clinical Services, where he was responsible for both managing and developing new business throughout Almac’s Northeast US region. Genzyme has appointed Dominic Carolan as senior vice president for the Haverhill (UK) and Waterford (Ireland) operations, and Simon Cousins as vice president, Contract Manufacturing Organisations. Both will be based at the Haverhill facility. Mr Carolan was previously at the Waterford facility, where he built up the organisation and operational competencies of the site. Over the last 11 years, Mr Cousins has led the development of Genzyme’s Haverhill operations with investments in bulk Renagel/Renvela manufacture, breakthroughs in process R&D and growth of the label, pack and distribution operation. Novacta Therapeutics (UK), a privately held anti-infective biotechnology company, has appointed Dr David Pompliano to its board of directors. In addition to his role of non-executive director Dr Pompliano will also provide strategic direction to Novacta’s R&D team and will hold the position of chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board. CRF Health, a provider of electronic Patient Reported Outcomes (ePRO), has appointed Rachael King as CEO. Formerly CRF’s vice president of European and Asian Operations, Ms King has been involved in developing and growing new markets for the company. She has also been the chair of its Clinical Advisory Board. Aquapharm Biodiscovery (UK), a marine biotechnology company, has appointed Steve Harris as non-executive chairman of the board with immediate effect. Mr Harris has over 40 years experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. The company has also announced the appointment of Sandy McDougall as chief financial officer.
