Anja Fiedler brings significant global experience and knowledge to Lonza. She has led large organizations, has strong sales, marketing and operational experience and has a track record of coaching talent and leading people. She has most recently served as Managing Director of Philip Morris Czech Republic, Slovak Republic and Hungary. After a short transition period in Basel, Switzerland she will relocate to the United States where she will be based at the Lonza Bioscience headquarters in Walkersville, Maryland. Sanofi-aventis US has appointed Paul Chew chief science officer/chief medical officer, he previously held the role of president of US R&D. Dr Chew will be responsible for overseeing US medical affairs in addition to his continued oversight of the US R&D organisation. Furthermore, he will be charged with representing accurate and timely clinical and safety information to health authorities, payers, patients and physicians. Acacia Pharma has announced that Ian Kent has joined its board of directors as non-executive chairman. Ian has a wealth of corporate experience having acted as chairman and non-executive director of a number of successful biotechnology companies. He is currently chairman of Intercytex Group, Argenta Discovery and Avantium Holdings. Amongst others he chaired PIramed, sold to Roche; Innovata, merged with Vectura; Roslin Biomed sold to Geron; and Imutran sold to Novartis. Xention has announced the appointment of Dr Keith McCullagh as the new non-executive chairman of its board of directors. Keith McCullagh is an experienced biotech entrepreneur. From 2003 until his retirement last year he was chief executive of Santaris Pharma, the Danish RNA medicines company. From 2000 to 2003 he was the founding chairman of OnMedica Group, a European pharmaceutical e-detailing business. Also, in 2000 Keith cofounded Pharmacy2U, a UK warehouse and mail order pharmacy, of which he remains non-executive chairman.
