Well, that’s not strictly true: Pharm Exec Europe’s latest regular writers aren’t exactly strangers to the magazine. But I hope you agree that their contributions will bring a breath of fresh air to our erstwhile publication. Dr Brian Smith, who begins his tenure as our Strategy Fundamentals columnist this month, has been a PEE contributor for some years. Now we are harnessing his prolific powers as an opinion leader in the field of competitive strategy, and look forward to learning from his insights on a monthly basis. George Laszlo, whose Laszlo Letter is a leading internet blog devoted to operation excellence through IT enablement in the life sciences, will be appearing on a bimonthly basis and supplying our IT Matters column — I hope you enjoy his nuggets of wisdom as much as we do. Completing the triumvirate is Gerhard Symons, who has also for some time been supplying PEE with valued articles and authored our recent White Paper (What Big Pharma can learn from mid-tier pharma). Gerhard will be regaling us with tales from his travels in the biopharma landscape in the months to come. Staying on the subject of biotechnology, I will be attending the Bio 2008 event in San Diego, California, which should be getting underway just as this issue of Pharm Exec Europe lands in your inbox. It will be interesting to see, as the credit crunch continues to weigh down on us all, which locations are rising to the top of the bioregion pile as the dollar remains weak and the Euro remains strong. For the astute investor, now could be a very good time to partner with a foreign company or relocate to a new region. For the not-so-astute investor, it could be a very bad time! I hope to report back on what I find out in July’s issue of PEE.
