How much are you relying on Turkey harmonising its health regulations and standards with EU member states? It is an advantage. If Turkey is a brand, then Turkish companies can grow in the international market. What matters is building a credible Turkish product. That happens only when all Turkish companies produce high-quality products that match European standards. So for us the name Biofarma is not the most important thing. The Turkish market is. Austrian company Pils. Does ownership by financial companies present any hardships? We are not owned by pharmaceutical companies, but investment companies, where many entrepreneurs come together to make a fund and invest in pharma companies. They may not have medical backgrounds but they bring investment acumen to acquire these pharmaceutical companies, grow them in terms of turnover and then in a few years time sell these companies. What is important is that they work with professional managers. the current production systems are enough. But for the oncological products we will need a new facility. In 2008 we started the design and in 2009 construction will begin. Your current exports exceed the national average by only a small margin. How do you compensate for your excess production capacity, something several Turkish companies are also trying to overcome? Every month we produce 65 million boxes and we sell 35 million boxes to the Turkish pharmaceutical sector. The remaining capacity is used for contractmanufacturing for seven local and multinational firms. With your already large product portfolio, your move into high-tech niche therapeutics, and your upgrade in exports, what is your vision for the company in the next five years? When Citigroup acquired us in 2006 we were number 32 on the Turkish market and we are currently number 21. In 2013 we want to be in the top 10, selling 100 million boxes and launching 15 products per year. By the end of 2009 we will be exporting to 27 countries and will be investing on oncology products.
